Letter from HCPC Board

Happy New Year, RxAdherence Readers! I trust your year is off to a great start. As an organization, we are gearing up for an exciting year. First, I'd like to welcome QPSI and Pharmaceutical Packaging Solutions to our membership ranks. We appreciate their commitment and support of our organization.

Our annual conference, RxAdherence2014, Strategies to Improve Outcomes, will be held on Tuesday, April 8 in Florham Park, NJ. If you haven't signed up to attend, do so now. (Visit www.rxadherenceconference.com) This long-standing conference is now in its 22nd year and while other patient adherence conferences are cropping up around the globe, the HCPC conference is the only conference that traditionally highlights compliance-prompting packaging as a successful tool for improving patient adherence. Plus, it's the most economical one day conference located within the pharmaceutical manufacturing corridor with registration rates being far less than other similar conferences. This year, we have several professionals who will be presenting the latest trend for improving patient adherence, medication synchronization coupled with pharmacist driven appointment based models. Hear from Chris DuPaul of CVS Caremark and Tanya Schmidt of Thrifty White Pharmacy, amongst others, on this latest wave in altering consumer/patient behavior. In addition, the HCPC will be reporting on the results of our recent study that examined the product stability of three chronic condition pharmaceuticals packaged in different blister materials, HDPE bottles, and amber pharmacy vials. These multiple packaging formats were repeatedly opened under conditions simulating in-home patient use in order to better understand production degradation with different form factors. Attendees at RxAdherence2014 will discover which packaging formats provide maximum safety to doses and maintain product efficacy throughout a typical use cycle.

Register for RxAdherence 2014. You're bound to come back to your office with some exciting information to bolster your patient adherence efforts.

Best Personal Regards,
Ralph Mendoza,
HCPC Board Chairman 2013-2014

Letter from the HCPC Executive Director

Hello Rx Adherence News Readers. Happy New Year! We at HCPC wish you a healthy and prosperous one. And if our government could get out of the way, it might just happen.

I'm not sure how many of you have had the pleasure of firsthand experience with Obamacare ( or as I like to refer to it, Obamination). As an independently employed person I was one of the many who although I liked my plan and was assured 567 times that I could keep it, well, it didn't quite work out that way. Not to worry. I'm sure the revised plan will be more efficient and provide better protection for less cost. (Dorothy . . . wake up, wake up, dear!) Oh, what was I saying? Ah yes, better protection, less cost. Well, not exactly. For another 40% of premium I'll get roughly the same coverage I have now.

What a bargain. I'm lucky though, it stings but I can manage. I am sure there are many in my boat who cannot.

This leads to the activities of 2013 where we've engaged other trade groups with larger voices to educate their members and broaden the audience for our mission.

CVS Caremark to present "Improving Patient Care Through Design" at RxAdherence2014

HCPC is excited to have Chris DuPaul, Vice President, Enterprise Product Innovation, of CVS Caremark present at this year's RxAdherence, Strategies to Improve Patient Outcomes conference. Mr. DuPaul's presentation will get attendees to think differently about product design to improve patient care and adherence by simplifying the use of prescription medications while maintaining quality, and safety. Other presenters will cover the reasons behind the dramatic growth of the pharmacist driven appointment based model as means of improving patient adherence. The HCPC will present results of a recent study examining the product stability of three chronic condition drugs in a normal use environment, and will reveals the impact on critical product characteristics when products are packaged in different blister materials, HDPE bottles, and amber pharmacy vials. Discover which packaging formats provide maximum safety to doses, maintaining product efficacy throughout a typical use cycle. Register for RxAdherence2014. Visit www.rxadherenceconference.com.
