Letter from HCPC Board

It's hard to believe that 2011 is almost over. It's been quite a busy year for the HCPC Board and 2012 is expected to be just as busy as we continue to advance the use of compliance prompting packaging to improve patient adherence. I would like to thank our members for their continued support of our mission and their involvement with the organization. We had a record turnout for our annual November Full Membership meeting, where we reviewed many of the year's activities. Our board has been working behind the scenes to advance our message all year. Executive director, Walt Berghahn, was a keynote speaker at several conferences representing HCPC and touting our message of improved patient adherence and outcomes through packaging. I had the opportunity to pinch-hit for Walt at the Eye for Pharma PACE Conference in Philadelphia this past fall. There was a very warm reception by the attendees and speakers to our message, as many in the medical industry are becoming more focused on improving the success of pharmaceutical regimens and, therefore, patient outcomes. Letter from the HCPC Executive Director

As we close out 2011 no nearer to comprehensive healthcare reform than at the end of 2010 some might think it's time to despair, no improvements are coming. Nothing could be further from the truth. Solutions are certainly not coming from Congress but, is that really a surprise?

So where are the solutions? They are developing all over the industry in the form of Pay-for-Performance and Accountable Care Organizations. Now these phrases have been around for many years and one might be tempted to dismiss them as more fluff and just the latest buzz words waiting to be replaced by the next innovative idea or snappy acronym. If you take a closer look, you will see a multi-layered approach, that started from a national level with CMS (Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services), which has slowly been working its way through the system until we are finally seeing local action actually implementing and benefiting from the concepts of P4P with the very real benefit of improving patient outcomes.

I've been all over the country this year visiting a wide variety of care providers and one thing is certain, improved outcomes are on the minds of all. A key component that is getting lots of attention is medication adherence. For those soliciting innovative adherence solutions there simply has not been a better time. So the "when" question has been answered, the time is "NOW", it is the "where" question that will change the game. Read More.
